1 Tool purpose
The software tool provides a recovery mechanism for a specific list of Sony TV models.
This tool is capable of upgrading the system and getting it to software upgradeable
position.
This document explains the process to upgrade the TV and recover boards that do not
power on. All the required files are included in the zip folder called
“Board_Recovery.zip”, attached to Technical bulletin 12TV026.
The tool uses UART protocol to connect to the target system, hence you will need to
install a serial communication software. The location of this software will be given in
the next section.
Additionally, a special hardware called TL‐3 board plus adaptor is required. This
hardware has to be purchased as spare part with part number 994803297.
The models that can be recovered using this tool are:
KDL ‐ 37, 40S5500
KDL ‐ 37, 40P5500
KDL ‐ 32, 37, 40S5600
KDL ‐ 32, 37, 40P5600
KDL ‐ 32, 37, 40P3600
Note: This tool will not work for any other SONY TV model.

3 Software Requirements
3.1 TeraTerm application for Windows
Tera Term (Pro) is a free software terminal emulator (communication program) for
MS‐Windows. It supports VT100 emulation, telnet connection, serial port connection,
and so on. Note: Version 4.65 or later is recommended.
Version 4.74 can be found attached to Technical Bulletin 12TV026,
Other versions or info can be found on website:
http://en.sourceforge.jp/projects/ttssh2/releases/?fulllist=1
3.2 TL‐3 board USB Driver installation
The TL‐3 board allows the communication between your computer and the TV. You
need to install the drivers (http://www.ftdichip.com/FTDrivers.htm) for this hardware
before using it.
1) Connect the TL‐3 board to your computer using the USB cable. Use the
configuration switches as it is shown in the picture of previous section (UP‐UP‐
DOWN‐UP). A prompt should appear asking for the driver location.
2) Copy the whole contents of the “Board Recovery” folder (attached to Technical
Bulletin 12TV026) to your hard disc.
3) Inside the “Board Recovery " folder, select the folder called “Driver USB TL‐V”.
This is the path for the TL‐3 board driver (same driver as TL‐V board)
4) After the installation, the TL‐3/TL‐V board is ready to be used.
