[ Firmware version up procedure for DMC-FZ18 ]
The firmware update procedure is as follows:
1. Confirm the firmware version currently installed in the camera.
2. Download the latest firmware available for the camera from TSN-PAVC Web site.
3. Copy the downloaded and decompressed file into an SD Memory Card.
4. Update the camera by using the SD Memory Card.
5. Confirm the firmware version.
& lt; 1. Confirm the firmware version currently installed in the camera. & gt;
1) Turn the " Camera ON/OFF Switch " OFF.
2) Insert a battery with sufficient power and connect the AC Adapter. (DMW-AC7: Optional)
3) Insert an " SD Memory Card " with some pictures.
4) Set the mode dial to " Program AE mode " .
5) While keep pressing " AF macro/Focus Switch Button " and " Upper arrow Cursor Button " simultaneously, turn the " Camera ON/OFF Switch " ON.
6) Set the mode dial to " Playback mode " .
7) After pressing " AF macro/Focus Switch Button " and " Down arrow Cursor Button " simultaneously, the LCD monitor will display the following data.

The data will not appear if the LCD monitor is not set to Normal display. Press " [DISPLAY/LCD MODE] Button " to change the LCD display mode.
8) Press " AF macro/Focus Switch Button " and " Down arrow Cursor Button " simultaneously to go back to normal indication mode.
& lt; 2. Download the latest firmware available for the camera from TSN-PAVC Web site & gt;
1) Connect your PC to TSN-PAVC web site and download the firmware and save it to your PC.
2) Usually the firmware is zipped. Decompress the firmware to have " FZ18_x.bin " file format.
& lt; 3. Copy the downloaded and decompressed file into an SD Memory Card & gt;
1) Copy the downloaded and decompressed firmware file into the root directory of
an SD Memory Card that has at least 8 MB of free space. The card should also
have a few photos on it.
Note:
1. Sample of a file name: The name of firmware is " FZ18_x.bin " .
( " x " is different according to the firmware version.)
2. If the PC does not have an SD slot, connect camera body unit to the PC with USB cable.
Insert an SD Memory card to the camera body unit and copy the file.
Remove the USB cable from the PC and the camera body unit.
Copy the firmware on the root
directory position.
& lt; 4. Update the camera by using the SD Memory Card & gt;
CAUTION:
Do NOT TURN OFF the camera while firmware update is in progress, otherwise the FLASH_ROM data may be damaged.
If the firmware version is equivalent to the currently installed one, the following process will not be activated.
1) Turn the " Camera ON/OFF Switch " OFF.
2) Insert a battery with sufficient power and connect the AC Adapter. (DMW-AC7: Optional)
3) Insert the SD Memory Card with firmware into the SD slot of the camera.
4) Set the mode dial to " Playback " position.
5) Turn ON the " Camera ON/OFF Switch " , then the LCD monitor will display the following screen.

6) Press " Upper arrow Cursor Button " to select " YES " , then press the " [MENU/SET] Button " .
7) The " Power lamp (Green LED light) " starts blinking and LCD monitor will show the following message.
The process usually takes about 10 seconds.
8) A recorded picture or " NO VALID IMAGE TO PLAY " will be shown on the LCD monitor, when the update firmware process is completed.
Turn OFF the " Camera ON/OFF Switch " .
& lt; 5. Confirm the firmware version & gt;
1) Set the mode dial to " Program AE mode " .
2) While keep pressing " AF macro/Focus Switch Button " and " Upper arrow Cursor Button " simultaneously, turn the " Camera ON/OFF Switch " ON.
3) Set the mode dial to " Playback " mode.
4) After pressing " AF macro/Focus Switch Button " and " Down arrow Cursor Button " simultaneously, the LCD monitor will display the following data.
The firmware version shown in the step 3 will be indicated if the firmware version up has been completed successfully.
