Instead of A-cover Assembly - blank (code 9456083) A-cover - painted
(code 9456582) should be used. If the code 9456083 is used, then the phone
will have a black cover. Please correct the code in your manuals!

FLASH MEMORY USAGE IN NSE-5
The NSE-5 Flash memory usage is different to other older Nokia phones
supported by the FPS-4 tool, as all non-volatile data is stored in Flash
memory instead of the traditional EEPROM.
NSE-5 has two separate Flash ICs (D301 and D303).
In D301 the EEPROM is emulated and all the user-data is handled by a
Permanent Memory Manager (PPM), both using the Flash as ’non-volatile’
backup memory.
Note! If D301 needs to be replaced with new one, then it is necessary to
re-build the IMEI/simlocks and completely re-tune the phone.

ROLLER KEY
In some cases the Roller Key on NSE-5 has not worked. This can be caused
by the following:
1. Guide pin on B-cover is too long
The right holder of the RTC-battery (see picture below), which is a
component of the B-cover, pushes against R411 on the PCB. Due to these
forces the solder breaks (in addition to this it is possible that R411 could
break itself) and then the connection is open. Due to this the roller key does
not work.

Procedure how to fix the malfunction
The right guide pin must be cut manually with a tool as indicated on picture
below. (A similar tool can also be used.) The nominal height of the guide pin
after cutting must be 1.4mm.
Please remember to cut only the right guide pin (see picture below)!!

2. The ESD & Connector Spring
The lower limit for the ESD spring is 1.5mm and the upper limit is 1.8mm. If
the spring is outside this specification, (i.e. the spring does not have the
proper contact to the PCB) the Roller Key will not function.

REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS FOR SLIDE COVER
In some cases ’intermittent audio’ or ’no audio’ have been observed in NSE-5
phones, because of defective slide cover. Following symptoms can be
observed:
1. Microphone does not work
2. Digital (TDMA) noise in speaker
3. Slide cover falling off
1. Microphone does not work:
Reasons for this;
A. Short circuit between gold lane on slideflex. This short circuit often occurs
in the end of the slide cover, because of metal dust (gold dust) gathering
with too much grease.
Repair instruction:
Take a cotton bud and clean the flex, especially the area in the left bottom
corner (see picture 1)

3. Slide cover falling off:
A reason for this is that the phone has been dropped or hit by something.
Another reason might be that the user has been playing with the slide
(continuous disassembly/assembly)
Repair instructions:
Check the snaps on both sides: if there is no damage on them, put the slide
cover back on the metal slide. If the snaps (just one of them) are damaged
(see picture 3 & 4), then replace the slide cover with a new one, and put it
back on the metal slide.
