Configuring MICROSOFT WINDOWS NT 3.1 Video Miniport Driver
for
All Trident Microsystem Display Card
. Install Trident miniport driver:
1. Bootup to DOS
Assume that Windows NT is installed in C:\WINNT
2. Go to the driver where this diskette is located, i.e., A: or B:
3. Type NTINSTL C:\WINNT, and press ENTER
The NTINSTL.BAT will do following work:
A. Rename C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\VGA.SYS TO
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\VGA.OLD
B. Copy A:TRIDENT.SYS TO C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\VGA.SYS
C. Copy A:TRIDENT.SYS TO C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\TRIDENT.SYS
D. Copy A:VIDEO.INF TO C:\WINNT\SYETEM32\VIDEO.INF
. Select Display Resolution and color:
1. Run WINDOWS NT Setup
2. Select the resolution and color you want
3. When Messages Box asks " Do you want to use the currently installed
driver(s) or install new one(s) " , choose " Current "

This diskette contains these high-resolution drivers for Windows 3.1:

TRIT8005.DRV -- 800X600-256C
This file tells how to install the Windows drivers on your computer.
NOTE: If you select a driver that requires more video memory than is
available in the video subsystem, Windows will not operate
correctly. Run Windows SETUP and select a driver with the
appropriate video subsystem memory requirement.
Installing the Video Drivers and Power Management Feature Under Windows
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Graphic Installation Interface lets you easily install the Trident
video drivers and power management feature from within Windows.
Follow these steps:
1. First install MS Windows 3.1 using the standard IBM VGA driver.
2. Make sure Windows 3.1 is working properly. Have your Windows 3.1
Setup diskettes on hand, as the installation process requires them.
3. Run Windows 3.1 and select the MAIN group in the Program Manager.
4. Insert the this diskette in a floppy drive, such as drive A.
5. Select FILE MANAGER in the MAIN group, then select the floppy drive
that this diskette is in ( e.g., drive A:).
6. Double-click on the file TINSTALL.EXE, which resides in the \WIN
subdirectory of this diskette. TINSTALL copies ALL driver files
into a subdirectory named TRIDENT on your hard disk. If desired,
you can use another directory name instead of the default name,
TRIDENT. TINSTALL also copies the font files that the drivers use
from your Windows Setup diskettes to your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.
NOTE: TINSTALL expects to find certain font files on certain Windows
Setup diskettes. If you have a European-language version of Windows,
such as German, some font files are on different diskettes. When
the program does not find a file on a diskette, a Check Diskette
window opens. Select the " As It Was " option in this window. Then
continue with the installation, inserting Windows Setup diskettes
in the floppy drive in sequential order, until the program finds
all the files it needs and finishes the installation.
The program creates a program group named GRAPHICS DRIVER & UTILITIES.
This window contains GRAPHICS SETUP and POWER MANAGEMENT icons.
(POWER MANAGEMENT icon occurs only on TGUI9400CXi and later chips,
it does not occur on ealier chips such as TVGA8900 series and
TVGA9000 series chips because this program only supports TGUI9400CXi and
later chips.)
7. Click GRAPHICS SETUP, then select VIDEO DRIVER SETUP. Select a suitable
driver and click Setup. Follow the instructions to finish Setup.
VESA Display Power Management Signaling (DPMS)
-----------------------------------------------
The POWER MANAGEMENT program, in the DRIVER & UTILITIES program group,
is designed for energy-saving monitors that conform to the VESA Display Power
Management Signaling (DPMS) standard. If your monitor meets the VESA
DPMS specification, you can use POWER MANAGEMENT to decrease monitor energy
consumption. The program offers three power-down modes:
1. Standby (minimum power savings)
2. Suspend (substantial power savings)
3. Off state (maximum power savings)
The program monitors mouse and/or keyboard activity. When it detects no
activity for a specified delay period, the program signals the monitor to
enter the selected power-down mode.
NOTE: 1. Be sure your monitor supports the VESA DPMS standard before using the
POWER MANAGEMENT program. If your monitor does not support DPMS, it
may malfunction or operate unpredictably when you enable the program.
2. Power Management Program ONLY supports TGUI9400CXi and the later
chips, it does not run correctly on the earlier TVGA chips.
Power Management Program Options
--------------------------------
Delay Time - First, DISABLE the program (click the Enable/Disable button
at the bottom of the window so Enable shows, indicating that
the program is Disabled). Then set a delay time, from 0 to
999 minutes, for each mode. The monitor first enters the
power-down mode with the shortest delay time. When it reaches
the next-shortest delay time, it enters the corresponding mode.
And last, it enters the power-down mode with the longest delay
time. We recommend that you leave OFF STATE with the longest
delay time, because the monitor cannot enter any other mode
from OFF STATE.
Clock On/Off - Turns the delay timer display (the digital display in the
upper left of the window) on or off. The display shows only
when the program is ENABLED.
Clock Alarm - When the alarm is set, the computer beeps for 5 seconds before
entering a power-down mode.
Touch Types - Selects which device(s) to monitor for activity. The delay
timer will reset to the specified delay time when activity is
detected on the selected device(s).
Password - After you select a password and ENABLE the option, you must enter
your password before the monitor can exit any power-down mode it
has entered. USE THIS FEATURE WITH CARE! If you forget the
password, you may be " locked in " at one power down mode.
Auto Start/ - Auto Start automatically loads the program in a minimized icon
Uninstall at the bottom of the Windows desktop each time you start Windows.
Uninstall cancels the automatic start feature. Keep in mind that
the button label is the OPPOSITE of the active state.
Test - Lets you test the sequence of power-down modes.
Enable/ - Enables or disables the Power Management program. Keep in mind
Disable that the button label is the OPPOSITE of the active state.
Exit - Closes the program window.
Selecting a Driver Through Windows SETUP
----------------------------------------
If you don't want the GRAPHICS DRIVER & UTILITIES program group in your
Windows Program Manager, you can select a high-resolution driver with
Windows SETUP.
1. First install MS Windows 3.1 using the standard IBM VGA driver.
2. Make sure Windows 3.1 is working properly. Exit Windows.
3. Change to your Windows 3.1 directory (e.g., c:\WINDOWS).
4. At the DOS prompt, type SETUP. When the program opens, highlight
the Display field under System Information.
5. Insert this disk in your floppy drive and select the display driver
option " Other (requires diskette...) " .
6. When prompted, enter the path of this disk (e.g., A:\WIN).
7. Select a suitable driver.
8. Follow the program instructions to finish SETUP.
Installing the Trident Drivers Over a Network
---------------------------------------------
You cannot install Windows drivers on a network with SETUP/N, using the
SETUP method described previously. The driver files are not copied
correctly to the network Windows directory or the local Windows directory,
because the standard SETUP program uses Microsoft COMPRESS to expand
the compressed files, while SETUP/N does not.
Here is the solution:
1. Expand the five Windows 3.1 disks to your network Windows
directory, following the directions in " Getting Started with
Microsoft Windows, " pages 6-9.
2. Use the same method to expand the Trident Windows drivers
to the same network Windows directory.
3. Run SETUP/N to install Windows, following the directions in the
" Getting Started " manual. Select " Other " as the Trident Video Driver.
4. Enter the path of the TRIDENT drivers (i.e., your Windows
network directory).
5. Select a suitable TRIDENT driver.
6. Follow the program instructions to finish SETUP/N.

Installation
------------
Installation procedures can vary for Autodesk products. Please
consult your Autodesk reference manual for complete installation
procedures. A general guide for installation follows:
* IMPORTANT: Make sure you have installed AutoCAD Rel 12 with
the IBM Standard VGA driver and you can bring up the AutoCAD
Rel 12 Drawing editor screen.
Display Driver Installation Procedures:
A. Copy the display driver from the %2:\TVGAUTIL\ACAD12
directory on your hard disk to your AutoCAD/386 drivers
directory(e.g. C:\ACAD12\DRV ). From drive %2, type:
COPY %2:\TVGAUTIL\ACAD12\RCPTV42.EXP C:\ACAD12\DRV
B. Enter the following SET command at the DOS prompt, or add
it to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file:
SET ACADDRV = C:\ACAD386\DRV
C. Install Display Driver for Drawing Editor:
1. Bring up your AutoCAD Drawing Editor Screen.
2. Select CONFIGURE in " File " pull-down menu. (AutoCAD will
switch to a text screen)
3. Select " 3 " to configure video display.
4. AutoCAD will show your current video display.
5. Answer " Y " to select a different driver.
6. Select " Trident VGA P386 ADI(V4.2) Display and Rendering
Driver " .
7. Answer " Y " to select a display resolution.
8. Select your resolution preference. ( Make sure you have
enough video memory for the resolution)
9. Enter " 0 " to exit to Drawing Editor Screen.
10. Answer " Y " to save configuration changes.
D. Install Display Driver for Rendering:
1. Make sure you have installed Rendering for AutoCAD Rel 12.
2. In Drawing editor screen,select " PREFERENCES " in " Render "
pull-down menu.
3. If you have configured Preferences for rendering before,
select " Reconfigure " in Rendering Preferences dialogure
box. Otherwise,it should directly switch to a text screen.
4. Select " 2 " to configure Rendering Driver.
5. Select " AutoCAD's configured P386 ADI combined display/
rendering driver " .
6. Select your resolution preference for Rendering.
7. Select your Rendering View preference.
8. Select " 0 " to exit to drawing Editor Screen.
9. Answer " Y " to save configuration changes.
10. Click " OK " to close Rendering Preferences dialogure box.
